I Track – Sports fields of the future

Startups with innovations that can be used on the sports fields without altering the facilities can apply for the challenge.

  • The startups selected for this track only join on the 28th of November, the training on pitching in the morning and the event in the afternoon.
  •  They are expected to roll out the pilot beginning of 2020 for one sports field. If successful, their solution will be implemented on two major sports complexes during the following two years.

Additional Criteria to consider for the proposed solution:

  • It should enable remote access control;
  • It must be possible to connect access to an online rental system;

A startup programme on societal challenges

In recent years, the MRDH has successfully collaborated with YES!Delft. In 2019 the MRDH started a new program with YES!Delft. The aim is to link the societal challenges of the 23 municipalities to the innovative technological solutions from startups.  The municipalities act as the requesting party. This means that they are involved during the process from formulation of challenge to development and testing of new technologies in practice.

Parking Pressure Data Challenge

The first challenge is the Parking Pressure Data Challenge and is a request of the cities The Hague and Leidschendam-Voorburg.

The challenge is to map the parking pressure for (problem areas within) different municipalities, where parking pressure consists of two components: parking capacity and current occupancy. Municipalities distinguish between occupation in different periods: morning / afternoon / evening / night.

Existing solutions are too inaccurate, too expensive or not scalable enough.

The solution must be AVG proof

Startups can also supply 1 of the 2 facets (capacity or occupation). Occupancy has priority over capacity. Being able to see the occupation in real time is not a requirement, but very desirable.

What you win

The winning startup(s) can have a pilot with one or both of the municipalities!

On September 18th, 19th, 20th + Weekend, Rotterdam Capital Days aim to unveil the world of capital in order to boost access to growth-capital for startups & scale-ups.

As part of the Rotterdam Capital Days, YES!Funded created an event geared up towards the famous startup financing  Valley of Death

WHAT

What is the Valley of Death? It’s always the toughest bit of the raising capital journey. It’s when a startup needs the outside capital at the beginning, prior to any sales. Since there are no sales, most of the investors decide to pass on investing in your startup!

HOW

YES!Funded team – Jan Gert van Hall (Investment Director) and Carola Torrente (Funding Consultant) are bringing on the stage of this event startups, investors and more experts to tackle the problem from all its angles.

The event is divided in two: the problem and the solution.

First, two YES!Delft startups will pitch what is their current experience with searching for a funding boost to start the production and bring their current well-working prototype to the market. A third YES!Delft alumni startup will pitch its experience, and tell more about how they managed to survive the Valley of Death and successfully activate sales.

The second and main part is a panel discussion on the current instruments available in the European landscape. Different parties who are involved on the investors and bank side to bridge the gap include RaboBank Direct Investments, Bert Oosthout as founder of WeShare Ventures, and Joarchim Blazer, expert in startup valuation and most importantly ambassador for revenue based financing.

PROGRAM

13:00 – 13:15 Walk-in

13:20 – 13:30  Welcome

13:30 – 14:20 Three YES!Delft startups pitching

14:20 – 15:00  Experts debating

About the challenge

A vital tool to help understand what lies beneath the earth’s surface are subsurface surveys. These surveys help measure the physical differences between rock types or physical discontinuities without the need for digging, drilling or tunneling.

The technology has a myriad of applications from ensuring that infrastructure such as dams, bridges, windmills, and tunnels are safe in helping scientists understand and, perhaps in the future, even predict earthquakes

Geophysical surveys are extensively used for oil and natural gas exploration, but alongside this they are valuable tools in developing new sources of energy and natural resources. Digital advancements in geophysical technology driven by data analytics, robotics, machine learning, and advanced visualization technologies are opening new avenues for understanding the planet we live on.

Who can apply to the challenge

Technical students have an opportunity to be part of the solution by entering the one-day Aramco Tech Quest. Preferably, they have background studies in either of the following specializations: data automation, drones, robotics, data analytics, earth sciences, geosciences and (or) imaging physics.

This free to enter challenge gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity in using subsurface surveying.

APPLY TO ARAMCO TECH QUEST AND WIN €2,000

What you win

I. The winning team will win €2,000 cash

II. Earn entry to Co-Lab: a half-day event workshop on entrepreneurship where you can meet start-up leaders.

III. Coaching hour with YES!Delft team member.

Application Process

  • We will form the teams, taking into account your multi-disciplinary backgrounds.
  • There are limited spots and only 6 teams will make it into the challenge!
  • You will end up being part of a 3-4 people team which you will be aware of two weeks prior the event.

Schedule of the challenge day

  • On the 14th of November, at the start of the day, you and your team will receive an introduction to subsurface surveying with experts from the industry explaining the key parameters such as quality of acquired data, cost, safety, logistics and environmental impact.
  • Armed with that information teams will be set a challenge to bring innovative ideas to the problem by combining data automation, drones and robotics, data and analytics along with earth science, geosciences, and imaging physics to develop new ideas.
  • There will be mentors available for all the teams and answer questions.
  • The six teams will also receive a workshop on pitching, in order to present their  ideas in an efficient way to the jury of experts.
  • The teams will  be presenting the solution at the end of the day to a jury that will judge the solution on innovation, creativity and applicability.
  • A dinner will be enjoyed by all participants, mentors, jury members and celebrate the ideas.
