Pressure ulcers (“Doorligwonden”) are still a big problem in care institutions around the world. These wounds 1) cause a lot of pain 2) increase the workload for caregivers and 3) cost over €15 Billion in the EU each year. Better prevention is the key to solving this problem. The TU Delft spin-off Momo Medical has developed a smart bed sensor that provides assistance for the prevention through repositioning the patient (“Wisselligging”). We monitor the patient movements and provide nurses with smart reminders and specialists with an overview of patient mobility. In this way, undertreatment and overtreatment can be avoided, reducing patient suffering, workload and cost. In the long-term we will make healthcare more data-driven, allowing caregivers to spend their time caring again.
